While many of us are looking for long term weight loss success, some people are looking to just drop a few pounds quickly in hopes of looking their best for a certain day. Quick diets have been all of the rage lately, especially when it comes to the world of “detox” diets. We’ve reviewed quite a few so far, and we can now add another one to the list. This next diet is called the Body Reset Diet, and it’s not a long plan.

The Body Reset Diet was created by Harley Pasternak, a celebrity personal trainer from Canada that was one of the co-hosts of the talk show “The Revolution” on ABC. In 2014, Pasternak released a book called “The Body Reset Diet: Power Your Metabolism, Blast Fat and Shed Pounds in Just 15 Days”. People were quick to jump on the bandwagon as Pasternak had worked with clients such as Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys and Bono.

So what is the Body Reset Diet, and what are you going to be eating? Let’s take a look in detail at the plan to see if it’s right for your weight loss goals.

Understanding the Body Reset Diet

body2

Pasternak says in his book that people focus too much on diets that focus on trying to cut carbs or fat or one certain aspect. He also says that trying to work out too much is hard to sustain, and that the Body Reset Diet avoids all of that to set you up with a long term plan. However, many that have tried the diet say that it’s just as hard (if not harder) to follow than other popular diets.

As we said earlier, the Body Reset Diet lasts for just 15 days, which would suggest that losing a significant amount of weight and finding a lifetime plan would be difficult. The promise from Pasternak with this plan is that going on the plan for these 15 days will make you want to change your approach to eating altogether, hence the term “reset.”

There are three phases with the Body Reset Diet, and Pasternak (who again, is a trainer) says that you do not need to exercise much on the plan. Here is what you can expect from each of the three phases that last for five days each on the Body Reset Diet:

Phase One

The first phase focuses purely on a diet that consists of smoothies. Throughout the five days, you will be drinking three smoothies each day. In the morning, it’s a white smoothie (that consists of milk or yogurt). Then, you follow up with lunch and a red smoothie that’s filled with fruit. Finally, dinner is a green smoothie packed with vegetables. Now, the smoothies are not very high in calories. So much so, in fact, that you are eating well under what is considered healthy. That’s where two snacks come into play as they are solid so you are more likely to feel full. This typically consists of an apple of edamame.

Phase Two

Phase two starts to get a bit easier as you’re not completely contained to just smoothies. There are still two smoothies each day, though. You can pick whichever one of the three smoothies you want to replace, but don’t expect to chow down on barbecue with the third meal. Instead, you will be replacing one of the smoothies with a healthy meal (that is usually either soup or a salad). Your two snacks will also still be there.

Phase Three

The final phase of the Body Reset Diet drops you down to one smoothie per day for breakfast, while you eat solid meals for lunch and dinner. There are more foods that you can eat for the final five days, but you should still be keeping it low calorie and healthy overall.

Celebrities on the Body Reset Diet

While the diet itself can be pretty hard to follow (especially if you hate cleaning out a blender), many celebrities have given it a try. There are some big names to try the Body Reset Diet and were willing to give some kind words to Pasternak and his plan. Here are just a few of the celebrities that have successfully gone on the diet:

Kim Kardashian – The reality star said that “I live for Harley’s smoothies” and that they taste incredible, allowing her to stay in shape.

Hilary Duff – Actress Hilary Duff has said that the Body Reset Diet doesn’t make you starve or suffer like some of the other fad diets out there. She also said that she lost weight and felt fantastic without having to make a major change to her overall lifestyle.

Amanda Seyfried – The star of movies like “Mean Girls” and “In Time” said that the Body Reset Diet “makes healthy eating easier” and that “The smoothies are simple to prepare, taste great and are the perfect breakfast or snack.”

Maria Menounos – Television presenter Maria Menounos has said that celebrities are always trying to lose weight and can do some crazy things, but that the Body Reset Diet makes it simple thanks to an outline of the plan that’s available.

Exercising on the Body Reset Diet

Most of the smoothies on the Body Reset Diet plan are right around the 300 calorie mark. With three of those per day and only around 100 calories from each of the two snacks, that’s only leaving you at 1,100 calories per day. With that low amount, you wouldn’t have to be doing much exercise to lose weight, but exercise is still encouraged with the Body Reset Diet.

It’s suggested by Pasternak that you should be walking around 10,000 steps per day. If your average step is around 2.5 feet, then that means around five miles per day. That can be quite a bit compared to what most people (especially at desk jobs) are used to. Pasternak also says that you should be combining resistance training three times per week with one body part being the focus. This can mean situps on one day with pushups the next.

Summing it Up

body5

If you just want to lose a few pounds quickly, then the Body Reset Diet isn’t the worst plan out there. Sticking to something for 15 days can be quite easy as long as you are OK with drinking smoothies for the most part. Most people will find the smoothies to not be all that filling, but most of the recipes out there are actually quite delicious.

Another thing about the smoothies is that there is no uniform smoothie that you should be drinking, and there are different kinds out there for all tastes and allergen friendly. There are free resources available for recipes if you look around hard enough, though Pasternak has a book that outlines the entire Body Reset Diet for right around $10.

The biggest thing is, how much weight do you want to lose overall, and do you want a sustained program? The Body Reset Diet has received some incredibly low grades for long term weight loss as most people that go through detox diets like this one end up regaining the weight and then some. Restricting yourself to mostly smoothies for an extended period of time is more likely to lead to a relapse in your weight loss, as with any other mainly liquid diet.

It would be hard to suggest the Body Reset Diet for those that have a significant amount of weight to lose as you should pace yourself. Those that are looking to fit into a certain article of clothing two weeks from now might find some success, and outside of the tasty smoothies, that’s the biggest positive.
